The Metropolis Swing Quartet Swing, jazz and classic songs……….

Based in Plymouth UK, MSQ is a small group of local musicians who share a passion for swing and jazz and the great American song-book writers and who love to share the music by playing it live in the style of some of the musical giants of the 20th century. The band consists of clarinet/tenor saxophone with guitar, bass and drums and has drawn inspiration from the likes of jazz greats Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and Lionel Hampton to bring a small piece of a much loved musical genre to the West Country. Other influences include the great song writers Cole Porter, Hoagy Carmichael and the Gershwin brothers and the musicians and sound of The Hot Club of France. Mixing well known small group swing numbers with big band classics and popular songs of the 1930’s and 1940’s the band aims to entertain and add a certain something to any occasion with their versions of upbeat foot-tappers and the delightful melodies of song-book hits which are still being recorded today by the likes of Robbie Williams, Sting and Rod Stewart– 70 or 80 years after they were first heard. We are also quite happy to add songs to our repertoire our for clients’ events if they have a favourite we don’t usually play.
